Treatment for pink eye depends on the cause of why the eye is turning red. Our doctors see hundreds of red eyes a year and it is important to determine the cause of why the eye is red. Our doctors use a slit lamp biomicrope to evaluate the conjunctiva, cornea, eyelids, tear film, anterior chamber and retina to diagnose the problem.

Bacterial and viral red eyes may be contagious and it is important that our doctors inform the patient of how to help avoid spreading the condition to others in their family and work. Our doctors use the Rapid Pathogen Screening Test to identify the cases of adenoviral infections which are extremely infectious. This test is a quick in office test where the tear fluid is collected from the effect eye and then tested. This test takes ten minutes to know the results. If a patient is positive for an adenoviral infection then extensive counseling on infection control is needed and treatment to try and resolve the condition quicker may be needed.
