Dr. Laura Windsor Wins Two State Awards

At the Indiana Optometric Association’s Annual Convention in Indianapolis on April 17, 2010, Dr. Laura Windsor was honored with two awards. She received the President’s Citation for being the outstanding Young Doctor of Optometry of the Year. This award is given to doctors who have been in practice less than 10 years and who has demonstrated not only contributions to his or her profession, but also to service in behalf of the visual welfare of the public and service to the community at large. Dr. Windsor also received a Meritorious Service Award for her work on developing a manual for doctors on selecting and implementing electronic medical records.  Dr. Windsor, an early adopter of computerized health record, has recently worked with IOA members to develop a manual to aid other practices to computerize their practices as will soon be required by the government.

Dr. Windsor was cited at the awards banquet for her many contributions to optometry including her work in low vision rehabilitation and in the application of the Internet and computer technology to aid and educate patients. Dr. Windsor graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry in May 2001 and her Bachelor’s of Science in Optometry in 1998. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Essilor “Award of Excellence” and the Indiana University Varilux Student Award for her superior clinical knowledge and leadership skills. She was awarded the National Essilor Award in Boston for her work with low vision patients in June 2001. Dr. Windsor completed the requirements of Fellowship into the American Academy of Optometry only two years after graduating from Optometry School.
